Greetings from Chicago. I was hoping to make this blog a little more fancy and maybe that will happen but now I feel like I should just get typing and worry about the structure of this later. As it says in the header we dasn't wait to stay on top of Trump between now at the 2024 election. I say that but perhaps we branch out as the next guy up couldn't be worse but he might be about as bad = DeSantis.
So, let just start with Trump's latest: Dinner with former rapper, Kayne West and Nick Fuentes a white supremacist political commentator. Details in a Time article here. The larger point here is Trump has never tried to hide is affiliation with known white supremacists. His head of staff, Steve Bannon was the former head of Brietbart - an alt right news agency specializing in half truths and lies. Yes that was his head of staff until Charlottesville. Trump loves these guys until the fire gets a little too hot and then he dumps them.
Trump's rise to the nation's highest office gave every racist cracker some hope that white people would 'take over' somehow - the constitution be damned. We now live in an atmosphere of not just opposition to the Republican part but outright fear of some of their members.
Trump and his henchmen only exist, only deserve our attention because the represent millions of votes. They don't exist because they have creative ideas or unique solutions to such problems as healthcare, global warming, immigration, etc. And yet with now ideas, they still represent votes. Not votes for a particular idea or platform, there are none - Trump ran in 2020 on no platform whatsoever. They represent votes because of the not so subtle message to racists, women haters, science deniers... "We got your back".
We managed to get Trump un-elected. No one running for any major office in 2022 on a ticket of election denial won. Progress. Progress is positive and it is in the right direction. That progress is one small step at a time. So it goes . . . This is now time to take our foot off the gas.
